Men's Track and Field preview: Last Chance Meets
March 4, 2010
Meet Information Name: Arkansas Final Qualifier DISTANCE MEDLEY RELAY: So far during the indoor season, only eight teams nationally have eclipsed the provisional mark of 9:41.70 with just one earning an automatic bid. The Longhorn team of Logan Gonzales (1,200m), Danzell Fortson (400m), Tevas Everett (800m) and Patrick Todd (1,600m) ran together for the first time at the Big 12 Indoor Championships and clocked a 9:48.24. They'll try and reach that provisional time this weekend at the Alex Wilson Invitational, which is known for producing fast times late in the season. Last year, all 18 teams that finished the race posted provisional qualifiers with 15 coming under the auto standard. As a result, the provisional and auto standards were lowered by four seconds for this season.
SHOT PUT: Both sophomore Jacob Thormaehlen and junior Brandon Drenon will compete at the Arkansas Final Qualifier this weekend. Thormaehlen is currently tied for ninth on the national list at 61-11, while Drenon ranks 20th at 60-3. POLE VAULT: Junior Maston Wallace will also head to Arkansas to try and better his mark in the pole vault. Wallace used a season-best 17-7.25 to finish second at the Big 12 Indoor Championships. That mark is currently tied for 11th on the national list. Wallace is looking to secure his third trip to the indoor national meet after finishing third as a freshman and 10th as a sophomore.
