Hernandez runs third fastest time in school history at Alex Wilson Invitational
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Junior Jacob Hernandez provisionally qualified in 1:49.84 in the 800-meter dash and All-American Jake Morse (Arlington, Texas) finished fourth in the mile run with a time of 4:04.81 at the Notre Dame Last Chance/Alex Wilson Invitational in Notre Dame on Saturday, March 3, 2007. Hernandez (Magnolia, Texas) placed third and was one of three 800-meter runners to qualify. He ran well, moving into number three all-time on UT's all-time indoor 800 list behind No. 1 Pablo Squella, who ran 1:49.25 in 1985 and current volunteer assistant coach Ryan Ponsonby, who clocked 1:49.73 as a sophomore in 2003. Hernandez's mark registers on the national scale, placing him in the top 23 800-meter harriers in the nation in just his first full season of competition. Junior Erik Stanley (Spring, Texas) ended his regular season with a 4:19.56 clip in the mile run. The Texas men's track and field team will gather at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 4, at the fountain between the Etter Harbin Alumni Center and the F. Loren Winship Drama Building on San Jacinto. The Longhorns will take pictures in front of the UT Tower that will be lit in recognition of their 2007 Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Conference Co-Championship.
