Men's Track adds NCAA provisional mark at Alex Wilson Invitational
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The University of Texas men’s track and field squad registered a NCAA provisional-qualifying mark in the distance-medley relay Friday night at the Alex Wilson Invitational in the University of Notre Dame’s Loftus Sports Center. The distance-medley relay quartet of junior Darren Brown (Spring, Texas – 1200 meters), senior Tomas Finol (Spring, Texas – 400 meters), sophomore Kyle Miller (Katy, Texas – 800 meters) and sophomore Jake Morse (Arlington, Texas – 1600 meters) clocked 9:37.13 to fall well within the NCAA provisional standard of 9:43.70. The provisional time does not guarantee Texas a berth in the event at next week’s NCAA Indoor Championships, although the Longhorns now have positioned themselves to be considered for a selection. Day Two update: Alex Wilson Invitational Wykes clocked 4:03.59 in Saturday’s mile to easily top the NCAA provisional time of 4:04.90. As is the case with UT’s distance-medley relay, Wykes is not guaranteed a berth in the mile at the NCAA Championships, although he has positioned himself to earn an invitation. The Longhorns now will set their sets on next week’s NCAA Indoor Championships, set for March 10 and 11 at the University of Arkansas’ Randal Tyson Track Center.
