FOUR IN A ROW?
Texas has won Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Championships in each of the last three seasons. The Horns' run started in 2006, when UT defeated Nebraska, 127-100. It was Texas' first indoor conference championship since 1999 and broke the Cornhusker's string of six consecutive victories. In 2007, the Horns shared the title with Nebraska after both teams scored 93 points. Texas reclaimed sole possession of the championship in 2008, defeating Nebraska, 106-104. In the 12 years of the Big 12, only Texas (four) and Nebraska (eight) have won the conference indoor meet.
THE TRIPLE
Seniors Jacob Hernandez and Tevan Everett will be looking to win their third consecutive indoor Big 12 title in the same event. Only 12 athletes in conference history, including six Longhorns, have accomplished the feat. Hernandez won the 800-meter run in both 2007 and '08, while Everett took the 600-yard run both years, once at Kansas State and once at Texas. In addition, senior Kyle Miller will be looking to repeat in the 1,000 meters and the Horns' distance medley relay will try and make it four-in-a-row this year.
NO. 7
Texas enters the Big 12 Indoor Championships ranked seventh nationally by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The Horns have been ranked seventh in four of the six polls this season, including the preseason version. Texas is one of five Big 12 teams ranked in the Top 10, behind Nebraska (4) and Texas A&M (6) and in front of Oklahoma (9) and Texas Tech (10). The conference has a total of eight teams ranked in the Top 25.
