LINCOLN, Neb. -- University of Texas junior All-American Donovan Kilmartin (Eagle, Idaho) rewrote his own Big 12 meet and Devaney Sports Center records in the heptathlon Saturday on day two of the Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Entering the second day of competition with a meet-leading 3,219 points, Kilmartin took first in the 60-meter hurdles (8.16) and the pole vault (17-4.50), putting himself in prime position to break his Big 12 meet and facility record score of 5,791 points set last season.
Needing a time in the range of 3 minutes, 3 seconds in the 1000 meters to set new heptathlon records, Kilmartin broke the mark with room to spare, clocking 2:55.33 in the event to end the heptathlon with 5,876 points.
Kilmartin adds another NCAA automatic mark to the one he registered in January at the New Mexico Multi-Events Meet.
