Men's Track and Field adds Jon Hill to 2009-10 list of signees

AUSTIN, Texas -- High jumper Jon Hill of Walkersville, Md. (Walkersville) has signed a letter of intent to join the Texas men's track and field team, head coach Bubba Thornton has announced. Hill, a three-time 2A Maryland state champion, was ranked third nationally coming into this season and currently has the nation's second-best mark (7-2) indoors.
"Jon Hill is a great addition to this group of signees," said head coach Bubba Thornton. "He has shown tremendous improvement throughout his high school career and we're very excited about what he brings to the table."
Hill, who cleared 7-0 five times prior to his 17th birthday, has already won the MPSSAA Indoor State Championship in the high jump (6-10.50) this year. He also won the 2A west regional with a 7-1 clearance.
Last season, Hill was named the 2007-08 Gatorade Maryland Boy's Track and Field Athlete of the Year. He won outdoor state championships in the high jump (7-0.25) and the triple jump (45-10), while placing second in the long jump (22-7), to help Walkersville earn a piece of its first-ever state championship. Hill also won the indoor state championship in the high jump as a junior.
Hill is the 11th member of UT's 2009-10 group of signees joining thrower Hayden Baillio (Whitesboro, Texas/Whitesboro), pole vaulter Hayden Clarke (Soutlake, Texas/Carroll), sprinter/jumper Marquise Goodwin (Garland, Texas/Rowlett), distance runner Christopher "C.J." Jessett (Katy, Texas/Seven Lakes), distance runner John McNamara (Austin, Texas/St. Andrew's Episcopal), sprinter Ryan Riley (Tyler, Texas/All Saints Episcopal), long jumper Emerson Sanders (Houston, Texas/Mayde Creek), distance runner Collin Smith (Austin, Texas/Austin), hurdler Keiron Stewart (Kingston, Jamaica/Kingston College) and distance runner Philip Wood (Pennington, N.J./The Pennington School).
