World record-setting distance medley relay team earns Big 12 weekly honors
AUSTIN, Texas -- The distance-medley relay's world-record time earned No. 13 Texas Men's Track and Field the Big 12 Athlete of the Week Honor. All-Americans Kyle Miller, Jacob Hernandez and Leo Manzano, and U.S. junior champion Danzell Fortson combined to run 9:25.97 in winning the event at the Tyson Invitational. The group broke five records including the world, American, NCAA, Texas and Randal Tyson Track Center bests. Texas easily met the NCAA automatic standard of 9:34 and leads the nation by almost 11 seconds (Oregon 9:36.21). UT returns to competition for the 2008 Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championships from Friday-Saturday, Feb. 29-March 1 at the Bob Devaney Track Center.
