SEATTLE -- Senior Ryan Ponsonby's (Denton, Texas) provisionally-qualifying time in the mile led a group of Texas men's distance runners at the Husky Invitational in Seattle, Wash. on Saturday, Feb. 12. Ponsonby posted a personal best for the second meet in a row with a 4:02.08b in finishing fifth.
Freshman Leonel Manzano (Marble Falls, Texas) also provisionally-qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships in the mile after finishing seventh in a time of 4:02.20b. This was the first time Manzano has competed in the mile as a collegiate.
In the 5,000 meters, senior Mark Nichol (Short Hills, N.J.) provisionally qualified behind a time of 14:06.93b in finishing 13 th. Junior Joe Thorne (Chamblee, Ga.) led a group of five Longhorns in the 3,000 meters with a ninth-place finish in 8:07.20b.
Junior Tomas Finol (Spring, Texas) and sophomore Jonathan Brown (Houston, Texas) finished seventh and 13 th, respectively, in the 800 meters. Finol posted a personal-best time of 1:51.73b, while Brown bettered his personal best by almost four seconds with a 1:52.82b.
The Husky Invitational was the final tune-up for the distance runners before they rejoin the rest of the Longhorns for the Big 12 Indoor Championships in Lincoln, Neb. on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 25-26.
