AUSTIN, Texas - Head men’s track and field coach Bubba Thornton announced Monday the signing of five student-athletes to National Letters of Intent.
Carlton Anumnu, Charles Anumnu, Easy Anyama, Logan Brittain and Wolf Mahler will join the Longhorns in the fall.
“We’re excited about each one of these young men,” Thornton said. “The talent they possess both on and off the field exemplifies what college athletics is about. We look forward to what they will bring to our university.”
2013-14 signee profiles:
Carlton Anumnu (Stafford, Texas/Stafford High School) - sprints
- Member of both the 4x100 (41.34) and 4x200-meter relay (86.42) units that captured the 2012 3A state championship. Ran the opening leg on the 4x100 and third leg on the 4x200. The 4x200 title was the school’s first since 1991 and helped the team finish second overall.
- Finished second in the 100 meters (personal-best 10.75) at the 2012 state championship. Also second in the Region III-3A 100m with a time of 10.77.
- 2012 Greater Houston Boys Track and Field Athlete of the Year
- Member of both the 4x100 (43.28) and 4x200m relay (89.87) units that claimed fourth at the 2011 Region III-3A championship meet.
Charles Anumnu (Stafford, Texas/Stafford High School) - sprints
- Member of both the 4x100 (41.34) and 4x200-meter relay (86.42) units that captured the 2012 3A state championship. Ran the final leg on both relays. The 4x200 title was the school’s first since 1991 and helped the team finish second overall.
- Finished third in the 200 meters (21.59) at the 2012 state championship. Also second in the Region III-3A 200m with a personal-best time of 21.54.
- Member of the 2012 All-Greater Houston Track and Field Team
- Member of both the 4x100 (43.28) and 4x200m relay (89.87) units that claimed fourth at the 2011 Region III-3A championship meet.
Easy Anyama (Stafford, Texas/Stafford High School) – sprints/hurdles
- Member of both the 4x100 (41.34) and 4x200-meter relay (86.42) units that captured the 2012 3A state championship. Ran the second leg on both relays. The 4x200 title was the school’s first since 1991 and helped the team finish second overall.
- Finished fourth in the 110-meter hurdles (14.62) at the 2012 state championship. Placed second in the 110mh (14.49) at 2012 Texas Relays. Personal-best time of 14.34 in the 60mh at the 2012 CFBISD Relays.
- Member of the 2012 All-Greater Houston Track and Field Team
- All-District 24-3A choice as a defensive back in 2011-12. First team all-district as a wide receiver as a junior.
Logan Brittain (Amarillo, Texas/Canyon Randall High School) - jumps
- Two-time state champion in high jump
- Won the 2012 4A state high jump title with a clearance of 6-10. Matched his personal best of 7-0 twice as a senior. Posted that mark in winning the Region I-4A title, as well as the Amarillo Relays Meet of Champions.
- Claimed fourth in the long jump (22-2) at the 2012 state regional. Had a personal-best of 22-8 1/4 at the 2012 Russell Graham Memorial Regional Qualifier.
- Won the 2011 state high jump crown with a clearance of 6-11 3/4. Captured the regional title by matching his personal-best 7-0. Also hit 7-0 at the 2011 Russell Graham Memorial Regional Qualifier.
- Finished third at the 2012 Texas Relays with mark of 6-9 3/4
- Finished fourth in the high jump at the 2010 state meet with a clearance of 6-6.
Wolf Mahler (Temple, Texas/Belton High School) - multi-events
- No. 1 ranked U.S. high school decathlete in 2012 by Track and Field News
- 2012 AAU All-American
- 2012 AAU Junior Olympic Champion in the decathlon with a personal-best 7,274 points, which was 1,099 ahead of the silver medalist. Won five of the 10 events.
- 2011 USATF Junior Olympic Decathlon National Champion with 6,930 points
- 2011 USATF All-American
- 2009 AAU Intermediate Decathlon Champion with 7,274 points
