Texas
Dual Threats: February 4 (Michael Huff)

Hello from New York,

It's been an interesting ride already with the Texas track and field team. We left for New York on Thursday morning. It was early, but we got some rest on the plane. When we got to New York, we went directly to the Armory, where we would be competing. The team got a little workout in and then we went to dinner. After that, we got some time to see New York City.

A group of us went to Chinatown and since I was in New York, I definitely had to get some shopping done. I picked up a pair of shoes and some jeans, but then it was time to focus on why we were really here.

I started competition on Friday with the 60 meters. There are so many excellent athletes here and most of them focus on track, so it was kind of overwhelming. But, I ran pretty well last week, so I thought I would have a chance to advance to the final, which is being held at Madison Square Garden.

I was pretty happy with my time, a 6.85, but I ended up just one-one-thousandth of a second out of the finals. It would have been great to compete at Madison Square Garden, but I can't be disappointed with my performance.

The next group, after the guys in the top six, will race tomorrow at 11 a.m. I'll be the top qualifier in that group, so I want to go out and win that race. In the meantime, I'm going to go root on my teammate Quincy Boles, who advanced to the race at MSG, and I'll just prepare for tomorrow.

I want to thank all of the Longhorn nation for their support and I'm going to do my best to represent Texas tomorrow. I'll check back tomorrow evening to let you know how the race went.

Until then, Hook 'Em Horns,
Michael
