Men's Track and Field with seven times/marks ranked among top 10 nationally
Jan. 29, 2013 AUSTIN, Texas - The Men's Track and Field team, which is No. 11 in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I National Computer Rankings, has seven times/marks in the top 10 in the country. The Longhorns posted the top distance medley relay time in the country on Friday at the Razorback Team Invitational when the foursome of Patrick McGregor, Zack Bilderback, Kyle Thompson and Joe Stilin cruised to the win in a six-team race by clocking a 9:31.82, which was nearly 13 seconds better than Arkansas' second-place effort (9:44.03) and close to 10 seconds faster than the second-best time in the country this season (9:41.55 by Texas Tech, 1/25). The mark also ranks fourth in school history and is almost four seconds faster than Notre Dame’s winning time (9:35.48) at the 2012 NCAA Indoor Championships. Stilin also has the sixth-best time nationally in both the mile (3:58.66) and 5,000 meters (13:59.23). On Saturday at the Razorback Team Invitatiional, he broke Leo Manzano's UT mile record of 3:58.78 which was set while winning the 2007 Big 12 Championship. Ryan Dohner also has two of the top individual times in the country. The junior clocked a 13:52.85 in the 5,000 meters (No. 4 in the nation) at the Hoosier Open and an 8:01.20 in the 3,000 (No. 7 nationally) at the Razorback Team Invitational.
With a combined 10 All-America honors to their credit, seniors Keiron Stewart and Hayden Baillio should be in the mix to score at next month's NCAA Indoor Championships. Stewart's time of 7.74 in the 60-meter hurdles, which was posted at both the Arkansas Dual meet and the Razorback Team Invitational, ranks sixth in the country. Baillio's season-best toss of 62-10.5 (19.16m) in the shot put ranks No. 7 in the country. In addition, Kyle Merber's time of 1:50.25 in the 800 meters ranks No. 20 nationally. The top 16 times in each individual event and the 12 best relay times qualify for the national meet which is set for March 8-9 in Fayetteville, Ark. The Big 12 Indoor Championships are scheduled for Feb. 22-23 in Ames, Iowa. A contingent of Longhorns will head to New York this weekend for the Armory Collegiate Invitational. |
