Texas heptathletes head to New Mexico Multi-Events Meet
AUSTIN, Texas -- Several University of Texas multi-event athletes will take part in their first heptathlons of the 2006 season this week when the Longhorns compete in the University of New Mexico Multi-Events Meet in Albuquerque, N.M. The meet runs Thursday and Friday, Jan. 26-27 at the Albuquerque Convention Center and begins at 12 p.m. CST each day. UT boasts two heptathlon All-Americans in senior Trey Hardee (Birmingham, Ala.) and junior Donovan Kilmartin (Eagle, Idaho). Kilmartin placed second in the event at the 2005 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, while Hardee took third. The reigning Big 12 Champion, Kilmartin set meet and facility records in the event at the 2005 conference championships at the University of Nebraska's Bob Devaney Center. Though Hardee and Kilmartin have competed in several heptathlon components this season, the New Mexico Multi-Events meet presents the duo's first opportunity to compete in a full heptathlon this season. Freshmen Dustin Bynum (Corpus Christi, Texas) and Andrew Webb (Midland, Texas) will join Hardee and Kilmartin in the events. The Albuquerque Convention Center features a 200-meter, 60-degree banked track with 60-meter straightaways. Houston, Long Beach State, Oklahoma, Oral Roberts, Texas Tech and host New Mexico will join the Longhorns in the two-day event.
