It's Been A While...
This will mark the first time since March of 1997 that Texas and Texas A&M competed in a dual meet. The Longhorns went on to win the Big 12's first outdoor conference championship that year.
No. 6 vs. No. 7
Texas opened up as the seventh-ranked team in the nation when the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association preseason poll came out earlier this month. The Horns were one of seven Big 12 teams included in the preseason poll and were second to Texas A&M, which opens the season ranked sixth. The Horns have finished in the Top 10 in each of the last six seasons, including four Top Five finishes, and have claimed three consecutive Big 12 Indoor Championships.
Texas welcomes back five indoor All-Americans from its 2008 squad, including three of the four members from UT's National Champion distance medley relay team in seniors Tevan Everett, who was the Big 12 Champion in the 600 yards, and Jacob Hernandez, who claimed the outdoor National Championship and the Big 12 indoor title in the 800 meters, and sophomore Danzell Fortson. Senior Jake Morse also is back after placing second at the national meet in the mile, while sophomore Maston Wallace, who placed third at the NCAA Indoors before claiming the National Championship in the outdoor pole vault, returns for his second season.
The 2009 Texas squad, which returns 13 athletes that claimed All-Big 12 honors in 2008, will also feature seniors Raymond Harris, who earned outdoor All-America honors in the high jump, and Kyle Miller, who won the Big 12 title in the 1,000 meters.
