Manson named Big 12 Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week
DALLAS -- The Big 12 Conference named University of Texas junior Andra Manson (Brenham, Texas) as its Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week Wednesday after Manson broke two records with one jump last weekend in Houston. "It's nice for Andra to be recognized by the conference early on in the season," said UT coach Bubba Thornton. "Andra worked hard in the off season, and his early results reflect his work ethic." The 2004 NCAA indoor and outdoor high jump champion, Manson topped 7-5 3/4 (2.28 meters) on Saturday, Jan. 14 at the University of Houston's Yeoman Field House to win the high jump at the Houston Indoor Opener. The leap broke the previous facility record of 7-5 and the meet record of 7-4 1/2. Manson's jump of 7-5 3/4 is believed to be the top mark in the world in 2006. He is the most recent Longhorn men's indoor track and field athlete to receive Big 12 athlete-of-the-week honors after earning similar recognition on Feb. 16, 2004.
