Men's Track and Field preview: Leonard Hilton Memorial Meet

AUSTIN, Texas -- After a week of crazy weather and school cancellations, the fourth-ranked Texas men's track and field team will look for a return to normalcy with a Friday, Jan. 19, trip to Houston for the Leonard Hilton Indoor Memorial Meet.

Teams entered in the scored competition are: UTSA, Grambling State, Houston, Huston-Tillotson, Jackson State, Lamar, McNeese State, Nicholls State, Rice, Sam Houston State, Southern, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas Lutheran, Texas Southern, Texas State, Tulane, and UT-Pan American.

The Longhorns started the 2007 season with a strong performance at the NYC Gotham Cup at the New Balance Track and Field Center at the Armory. Junior Leo Manzano (Marble Falls, Texas) won an individual title in the mile run and then anchored the 4x800-meter relay to an event win. Junior Joel Hargett (Conroe, Texas) nabbed UT's second individual event championship, winning the high jump after clearing 2.11-meters. After watching the opening month of competition, Trackwire picked Texas to score 39 points and place fourth at the NCAA Indoor National Championships. Five individuals and one relay were chosen to finish among the top 12 in their respective NCAA events at the indoor championships.
