WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Leading up to their opening meet of the 2005 indoor season, the Father Diamond Invitational at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va., the men's track and field team took a tour of our nation's capitol on Friday, Jan. 14. The tour consisted of stops at the Lincoln Memorial, the Vietnam Memorial and the White House.
"This trip was a great opportunity to take the guys on a tour of Washington, D.C.," said Texas head coach Bubba Thornton. "A lot of these guys haven't had the opportunity to get here before, so it was a neat experience for us."
The trip started at the Lincoln Memorial and then the team walked across the National Mall to the Vietnam Memorial. From there, the team headed to the White House for a private tour. While there, they received a well-wishing from newly appointed U.S. attorney general Alberto Gonzales.
As for the meet, competition will begin on Sat., Jan. 15 with the weight throw at 10 a.m. (Central). The 4x800m relay will be the first event on the track at 11:15 a.m. (Central). For a complete meet recap, visit TexasSports.com at the conclusion of the day's events.
