Q&A with Devon Bond

First-year Men's Track and Field athlete Devon Bond starts his collegiate career at the Houston Indoor Opener on Saturday. The 2007 Nike Indoor National High School Champion in the high jump sat down with TexasSports.com to discuss any pre-meet jitters and his first track meet west of the Mississippi.

Have you ever competed at the University of Houston? No, I've never competed on this side of the country. I have never had a track meet that wasn't on the East Coast.

Are you excited for your first college track and field meet tomorrow?
I am excited. I just hope that things go the way they are supposed to. It's been haunting me for the whole year. I hope that doesn't mess me up when I jump.

What is the one thing you are looking forward to at the meet? I'm looking forward to everything. Getting on the bus with my teammates, competing in my first college meet, just everything. Hopefully it will be successful.

Did your fall training season go well? It was good for the most part. I had a few ups and downs but I made it through. It's been good so far.

Do you feel ready to step into the line of NCAA Champion high jumpers from Texas? The reason I came here was because of the great high jumpers that have competed here. I'm ready to get my career started and hopefully I can live up to the tradition.
