Jan. 10, 2013
The Men's Track and Field team will to open the 2013 indoor season Friday evening when it hits the road to face the Arkansas Razorbacks in a dual meet featuring two of the top teams in the nation.
The Longhorns were ranked third in this week's preseason indoor rankings which were calculated by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The Razorbacks earned the top spot.
The teams are meeting in a season-opening dual meet for the fourth-straight year at the Randal Tyson Track Center. Arkansas edged Texas, 89-81, last season.
Field events get underway at 6 p.m. CST, with running events to start at 7 p.m. The scoring format is on a 5-3-2-1 scale. Only two competitors per team will score in each event. In the relay events, only one foursome per team will earn points.
Texas enters the year with 11 All-Americans on its roster.
Baillio was fifth in the shot put at the 2011 NCAA Indoor Championships and 10th last season. Crouser was fifth in the shot put at the 2012 national indoor meet. He opened his freshman season with a victory in the shot put at the Arkansas Dual meet.
Keiron Stewart is the veteran of the sprints/hurdles unit. He is a four-time All-America hurdler. He finished fourth at the 2011 NCAAs in the 60-meter hurdles.
The distance/middle distance unit has a wide array of talent.
Junior Ryan Dohner earned All-America honors after helping the Longhorns finish ninth at the 2012 NCAA Cross Country Championships. He also earned All-America honors by finishing seventh in the 10,000 meters at the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Championships.

Senior Patrick McGregor was a second team All-American in the 1,500 meters last season and has earned five All-Big 12 honors, including four during the last two indoor seasons in the 1,000 meters and mile.
McGregor has had success in this season-opening meet. He won the 1,000 meters at last year's Arkansas Dual meet and set the school record (2:22.75) in the 1,000 in 2011.
Three senior transfers should provide a boost to the distance depth.
Joe Stilin earned second team All-America honors at Princeton after finishing 14th in the 5,000 meters at the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Championships. Trevor Van Ackeren was also on the Princeton team. He was a second-team All-American in the 1,500 at last year's NCAA Outdoor meet, though he only has eligibility remaining in outdoors.
