Men's Track & Field ranked No. 10 in first indoor rankings

AUSTIN, Texas -- The Texas Men's Track and Field team debuts at No. 10 in the preseason USTFCCCA NCAA Division I rankings.

The Longhorns also appear in 11 event rankings, including junior Marquise Goodwin rated the No. 1 long jumper and junior Keiron Stewart ranked No. 3 in the 60m hurdles. Goodwin is also ranked No. 32 in the 60m. Goodwin was the national champion in the long jump in 2010 and holds the school indoor long jump record. Stewart was the 2011 South Central region men's indoor Track Athlete of the Year and holds school records in the 60m and 110m hurdles.

Also ranked in the top 10 of individual events is sophomore Mark Jackson (No. 8) in the triple jump and a pair of shot putters, Hayden Baillio (No. 7) and Jacob Thormaehlen (No. 8). Jackson was a second team All-American as a freshman a year ago. Baillio has finished in the top five in the shot put at the NCAA Championships in each of his first two seasons while Thormaehlen was also an All-American last year in the event.

Others ranked individually include the distance medley relay (No. 14), Isaac Murphy in the heptathlon (No. 17), Patrick McGregor in the mile (No. 28), Mark Jackson in the long jump (No. 29) and Trevante Rhodes in the 200m (No. 36).


 

 

UT will open the 2012 indoor season on Friday with a dual meet at Arkansas at 6 p.m.
