EUGENE, Ore. – The Texas Men’s Track and Field team advanced three athletes to the NCAA Championships Thursday evening at the NCAA West Preliminary Meet in Eugene, Ore. Sophomore Marquise Goodwin posted the day’s best long jump with a mark of 26-1.25 (7.97m). Goodwin passed on his final three attempts.
In the shot put, Texas moved two athletes to the NCAA Championships in sophomore Hayden Baillio and junior Jacob Thormaehlen. Baillio threw the second-best mark in the field with a toss of 62-1 (18.92m) and Thormaehlen qualified fourth with a mark of 61-5.75 (18.74m).
In the running events, two Longhorns qualified for quarterfinals on Saturday, both in the 1,500 meters. Sophomore Patrick McGregor clocked 3:47.70 to finish second in his heat and redshirt freshman CJ Jessett ran a 3:48.79 to take the final automatic qualifying spot in the same heat. McGregor and Jessett are scheduled to participate in the 1,500-meter quarterfinals at 3:45 p.m. CT on Saturday where the top five times from each heat plus the next two fastest times will advance to the NCAA Championships.
Competing tomorrow for the Longhorns are sophomore Keiron Stewart and freshman Jake Wohlford in the 110-meter hurdles, senior Jamal Wilson in the high jump and junior Trevante Rhodes in the 200 meters. Stewart and Wohlford will begin the Texas action in the 110m hurdles at 5:25 CT.
