Texas Men's Track & Field team competes in final day of Penn Relays
April 28, 2012 PHILADELPHIA, Penn. -- The University of Texas Men's Track & Field team had athletes compete in throwing events, the triple jump and one relay group run the 4x100m relay to end the Penn Relays. Jacob Thormaehlensecured a third place finish in the shot put with a throw of 184- 11 (56.37m). The 4x100m Relay group of Alex Williams, Marquise Goodwin, Mark Jackson and Trevante Rhodes, in their first time running the event together this season, posted a time of 40.69 to place fourth in the 4x100m Relay college division. Later in the afternoon, Jackson competed in the triple jump clearing a 49-9.75 (15.18m) mark for sixth place. Other UT athletes competing in the Penn Relay events included Petter Olsonwho participated in the javelin throw with a mark of 165-8 (50.50m). Several members of the team travelled to San Marcos to compete in the Texas State Classic. Kevin Rayes won the 1500-meter run in a time of 3:56.29. Will Antkowiakclocked in at 4:09.41 for an 11th place finish. In the 400m hurdles, Josh Brudnickposted a third place finish running a time of 53.43.
Texas also held a strong presence in the field events. Jarard Bruner leapt 49-09.25 (15.17m) for fourth place in the triple jump. Mark Thomashad the fifth-best score in the pole vault with a mark of 16-06.75 (5.05m). The University of Texas Men's Track and Field team resumes competition at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships in Manhattan, Kan from May 11-13. |
