Men's Track and Field wins two events on first day of Texas Relays

AUSTIN – Two Longhorns won individual events to lead the Texas Men's Track and Field team on the opening day of the 84th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. Six Horns set personal-bests on the first day which included five events of the decathlon, 800m, and 1,500m Section B. Freshman Michael Quercia won the 800 meters, clocking 1:52.17. The victory marks the first of his collegiate career. Freshman Kevin Rayes took fourth place in a time of 1:53.40, a personal best. In the ‘B’ section of the 1,500 meters, junior Brock Simmons won the race in a personal-best time of 3:53.76. Kirk Wilkinson finished third (3:56.77), Rory Tunningley was fourth (3:57.72), Will Nation came in sixth (3:58.20), Phil Wood finished eighth (4:01.63) and Habben Berhane came in 11th (4:04.95). Isaac Murphy posted personal bests in four of the five decathlon events - the 100 meters (10.47), 400 meters (49.38), long jump (23-2.50/7.07m) and high jump (5-11.25/1.81m). Kenny Greaves achieved bests in three events – the 100 meters (11.21), long jump (21-10.75/6.67m) and high jump (6-2.75/1.90m). Also competing in the decathlon, freshman Jake Wohlford clocked the fourth-best 100-meter time in the decathlon (10.73) and the seventh-best 400-meter time (50.00).
After the five events during day one of decathlon competition, Murphy sits in fifth place with 3,907 points, Greaves is ninth with 3,715 points and Wohlford tallied 3,667 points, residing in 11th place.
