Freshman Isaac Murphy scored 7,010 points to finish ninth in the decathlon on the second day of the Texas Relays. Murphy, who redshirted last outdoor season, was competing in his first full decathlon.

He opened the day by scoring 830 points in the 110-meter hurdles behind a windy 15.16. In the discus, Murphy posted 533 points with a 109-9. He added 790 points in the pole vault after tying for fourth with a 15-1 clearance. After notching 496 points in the javelin, Murphy closed with a 4:49.97 in the 1,500 meters to tally 619 points.
