Men's Track and Field wins nine events on day two of Hurricane Invitational
March 20, 2010 CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- The Texas men's track and field team picked up nine event wins as the Longhorns finished up competition at the Hurricane Invitational on Saturday. UT won six events on the track and three in the field led by sophomore Jacob Thormaehlen's victories in the shot put and discus. Thormaehlen set a new personal best in the shot put with a mark of 60-10.50. He also took the discus with a mark of 152-7. Sophomore John Osborn finished second in both events with personal bests of 50-9.25 in the shot put and 148-9 in the discus. Sophomore Doug Moppert claimed UT's other field-event win with a victory in the long jump. He notched a mark of 24-3.50, nipping freshman Emerson Sanders, who finished second with a jump of 23-9.50. On the track, Longhorns went 1-2 in both the 400 and 800 meters. Junior Danzell Fortson took the 400 with a time of 47.25 followed by junior Andre Thomas, who posted a personal best of 47.29. Sophomore Brian Rhodes-Devey took the 800 with a personal-best 1:54.55, finishing ahead of freshman Leon Dean, who clocked a 1:55.34. Freshman CJ Jesset claimed the 1,500 meters in 3:53.24, while redshirt freshman Lorin Wilson took the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:45.99. The Horns also won both the 4x100 and 4x400-meter relays. The 400-meter relay clocked a 40.93, while the 1,600-meter relay finished in 3:15.05.
