Drenon wins shot put at Hurricane Invitational
March 20, 2009 MIAMI -- Junior Brandon Drenon posted a regional qualifier in the shot put to lead Texas on the first day of the Hurricane Invitational. Competing in the first outdoor event of the season, Drenon won the shot put with a regional mark of 17.10m (56-1.25), while freshman Jacob Thormaehlen took second with a put of 16.52m (54-2.50). Sophomore Devon Bond also posted a regional qualifier in the high jump with a personal-best clearance of 2.10m (6-10.75). Bond placed second in the event behind last year's NCAA Champion Mickael Hanany, who is now competing for France. Senior Dustin Bynum also posted a personal best in the javelin, finishing second with a mark of 60.67m (199-0). High Jump Shot Put
