Men's Track and Field's Joseph wins steeplechase at Hurricane Invitational

CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- Freshman Raymond Joseph earned the first victory of his career as Texas opened its outdoor season at the Hurricane Invitational on Friday. Joseph clocked a 9:35.54 to win the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Junior Jamal Wilson and freshman Jon Hill tied for first in the high jump. Both cleared at 6-10.75 before missing on three attempts at 7-1. To open, Wilson got over cleanly at 6-6.75, while Hill needed two attempts. Both Wilson and Hill needed two attempts at 6-8.75, before both notched first-attempts clearances at 6-10.75. In other field action, sophomore Jacob Thormaehlen took second in the hammer throw with a mark of 151-7, while freshman Hayden Clark was the runner-up in the pole vault with a 16-6.75 clearance. The Horns will return to action tomorrow for the second day of the Hurricane Invitational.
