Men's Track and Field's DMR finishes eighth at NCAA Indoor Championships
March 12, 2010 FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Texas' distance medley relay finished eighth as the Longhorns wrapped up competition at the NCAA Indoor Championships on Friday. The team of senior Tevas Everett, juniors Danzell Fortson and Logan Gonzales and sophomore Patrick Todd clocked a 9:39.91 to earn the Horns a point. Gonzales opened the relay for the Horns by clocking a 2:57.77 in the 1,200 meters. He passed to Fortson, who ran the 400 leg in 47.06. Everett was next, notching a 1:50.06 800-meter leg before handing off to Todd, who closed in 4:05.03 (1,600m). Freshman Marquise Goodwin just missed the finals in the long jump, finishing 10th after producing a 24-11.75 on his second of three attempts. At the time, he was tied for ninth, which would have earned him three more jumps, but Cal St. Northridge's Reindell Cole notched a 25-1.75 on the final jump of the prelims to bump Goodwin to 10th. In the shot put, freshman Hayden Baillio placed 11th, while sophomore Jacob Thormaehlen was 13th. Baillio opened with a mark of 56-9.25. On his second attempt, he posted a 58-5.25 before improving to 59-0.75 on this third attempt. After fouling on his first attempt, Thormaehlen posted a 58-5.75 on his second attempt and a 57-9.75 on his third. Junior Maston Wallace tied for 11th in the pole vault with a clearance of 17-2.75. After passing at 16-10.75, Wallace used two attempts to get over at 17-2.75 before missing on all three attempts at 17-6.50. Freshman Keiron Stewart finished 15th in the 60-meter hurdles in his first career national meet. Following up on a season-best 7.71 to finish fourth at the Big 12 Indoor Championships, Stewart appeared to stumble out of the blocks and ended up clocking a 7.85. Texas does not have anyone scheduled for competition on Saturday and will now turn their focus to the outdoor season. The Horns will open the second half of the year when they travel to Miami, Fla. for the Hurricane Invitational on Friday and Saturday, March 19-20.
