Evans places in top four in two events to lead Men's Track & Field at SPIRE Invitational

GENEVA, Ohio -- Freshman Sheroid Evans finished among the top four in both the 200m and 400m to lead Texas on the final day of the SPIRE Invitational in Geneva, Ohio.

Evans improved his season time in the 400m to 47.16 to claim second place on the day. In the 200m, he ended up in fourth place after running a 21.26.

Kyle Thompson also recorded a top five finish as he was fourth in the 800m run. Thompson clocked a 1:49.27 in the race while Kevin Rayes came in 18th overall with a time of 1:51.90.

The distance runners were also on display with sophomore Ryan Dohner having the best day in the 3000m with an 8:00.24 to put him sixth in the field. Craig Lutz crossed the finish line in 8:34.92 for 35th. Three runners participated in the mile with Patrick McGregor the top UT runner in 10th (4:08.21). He was followed by C.J. Jessett in 12th (4:09.72) and John McNamara in 22nd (4:18.33).

Texas wrapped up a successful weekend in which they split the squad at the meet in Geneva and the Don Kirby Invite in Albuquerque, N.M. on Friday. Up next will be the Big 12 Indoor Championships Feb. 24-25 in College Station, Texas.
