Men’s Tennis signs prep star Ed Corrie to National Letter of Intent

AUSTIN, Texas -- University of Texas men’s tennis coach Michael Center announced Monday the signing of British prep tennis standout Ed Corrie (Harpenden, England/Haileighbury H.S.) to a National Letter of Intent for the 2007-08 academic year. Corrie will join the Longhorns in the fall of 2007.

“We’re very excited to have Ed join our program,” Center said. “His tennis continues to improve, and we expect him to make a big impact in our singles and doubles lineups next season.”

Corrie ranks as the No. 1 player in England for his age group (18 and under). Corrie has singles titles in three ITF junior tournaments to his credit. He claimed an ITF junior singles title in Dubai, United Arab Emirates in October of 2004 before winning a pair of events in Istanbul, Turkey in May of 2006.

In July of 2006, Corrie advanced to the second round of The Junior Championships, Wimbledon by upsetting 10th-seeded Jeevan Nedunchezhiya of India in three sets. A singles quarterfinalist and doubles finalist at the 2006 British Nationals, Corrie owns a victory over Colin Fleming, the ATP’s 340th-ranked player in the world.

Corrie joins Colorado native Kellen Damico, a 2006 Wimbledon junior doubles champion, in Texas’ class of 2007.
