Senior Daniel Whitehead will be one of 32 players competing in the singles draw of the 2012 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships beginning Thursday at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
Whitehead gained automatic entry into the tournament by winning the USTA/ITA Texas Regional Championship in Fort Worth, Texas on Oct. 23. The 46th-ranked player in the ITA Preseason Singles Rankings holds an 8-2 record in singles competition this fall, including a 2-2 mark against ranked opponents.
The USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships serves as the culmination of the fall season. Hosted by Columbia University, this prestigious event features a 32-player singles draw and a 20-team doubles draw for men and women.
Ken Thomas of RadioTennis.com will be on site throughout the week starting Thursday, providing a live broadcast beginning at 10:15 am ET each day.
This is the third year for the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships to be held at the home of the US Open.
