Men's Tennis preview: Texas Invitational, ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championship
WHAT: Texas plays host to the annual three-day Texas Invitational at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center, and freshman Kellen Damico and senior Luis Diaz Barriga will compete in the ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championship. WHERE: Texas Invitational: Penick-Allison Tennis Center - Austin, Texas WHEN: Texas Invitational: Friday-Sunday, Nov. 2-4 WHO: Student-athletes from Arizona State, Ball State, Baylor, St. Edward's, Nebraska, Texas A&M, Boise State, Arizona, Florida Atlantic, Texas-Arlington, Texas-San Antonio, Laredo Community College, Oregon, Denver, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Marquette, and Texas will compete in the Texas Invitational, which features two singles draws and one doubles draw; consolation rounds will be contested in each draw. Damico and Diaz Barriga will take on Mississippi's second-seeded duo of Jonas Berg and Erling Tveit in their opening round doubles match Thursday at the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championship. ITA RANKINGS UPDATE: The Longhorns feature five student-athletes in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) preseason singles rankings in 23rd-ranked sophomore Dimitar Kutrovsky, 72nd-ranked senior Milan Mihailovic, 80th-ranked senior Luis Diaz Barriga, 96th-ranked freshman Kellen Damico and 118th-ranked freshman Ed Corrie. Kutrovsky and sophomore Josh Zavala hold a No. 4 national doubles ranking. FALL UPDATE: Freshman Kellen Damico opened the fall by winning his first two events, the H-E-B Baylor Fall Invitational in Waco, and the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational in Midland. Damico and senior Luis Diaz Barriga claimed the main draw doubles title last week in the ITA South Central Regional Championship held at UT's Penick-Allison Tennis Center. As a result, the duo earned a berth into this week's ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championship.
