Helgeson drops Texas Invitational final
AUSTIN, Texas -- University of Texas sophomore Travis Helgeson (Overland Park, Kan.) could not make up ground after dropping the first-set tiebreak Sunday, as he suffered a 7-6 (6), 6-3 defeat to Baylor's Michal Kokta in the Texas Invitational singles final. After trailing 4-1 in the opening set, Helgeson eventually rebounded to even the set at five games apiece. Helgeson managed to save a set point as the first set progressed into a tiebreak, but, trailing 7-6, Helgeson sent a forehand wide and beyond the baseline to give Kokta the set. Kokta took control of the second set after surrendering the first game to Helgeson, winning the set, 6-3, to take the match and the tournament title. Texas Tech's Caistan Rojmar defeated UT sophomore Luis Barriga (Cordoba, Mexico) by a 6-1, 6-1 count to take the singles consolation bracket.
