Men's Tennis preview: ITA Texas Regional Championships

WHAT: Texas resumes fall tournament play at the ITA Texas Regional Championships, an event formerly contested as the ITA South Central Regional Championships. Under the recent ITA regional realignment, the Longhorns will play in the regional against teams from Texas schools, only. WHEN: Saturday, Oct. 24 through Tuesday, Oct. 27 WHERE: George P. Mitchell Tennis Center – College Station, Texas WHO: All 11 Longhorns are slated to compete at the ITA Texas Regional Championships. LAST TIME OUT: Texas senior Dimitar Kutrovsky reached the finals in the singles consolation draw, and Kutrovsky teamed up with classmate Josh Zavala to reach the main draw doubles quarterfinals at the ITA All-American Championships earlier this month in Tulsa, Okla. THE 2009-10 LONGHORNS: Texas returns four singles starters from the 2008-09 squad that put UT into the NCAA semifinals for the third time in four seasons. Senior All-American Dimitar Kutrovsky opens the season at No. 6 in the ITA national preseason singles rankings. Juniors Ed Corrie and Kellen Damico rank 46th and 47th, respectively, in the ITA singles rankings. Kutrovsky and senior Josh Zavala come in at No. 13 in the ITA doubles rankings.
