Andersen advances to singles quarterfinals at ATP Austin futures event

DRIPPING SPRINGS, Texas -- Texas junior Jean Andersen has advanced to the singles quarterfinals at the Roger Beasley Volvo Hill Country Classic, an ATP futures event at the Polo Tennis & Fitness Club. Andersen defeated a familiar opponent in the opening round, as he knocked off Dimitar Kutrovsky - the winningest player in Longhorns tennis history - by a 7-5, 6-4 count. He returned Thursday to knock off Tennessee senior Boris Conkic by a 7-5, 6-3 count. Andersen will meet either second-seeded Fritz Wolmarans or Texas teammate Ben Chen in Friday's quarterfinals. Chen moved on to the round of 16 after posting a 7-6 (3), 6-3 win over Derek Difazio. Texas-Exes Luis Diaz Barriga and Miguel Reyes Varela hold the top seed in the doubles draw and advanced to the quarterfinals after notching a 6-4, 7-6 (6) win over Daniel Chu and Aaron Yovan. Andersen, Kutrovsky, current Longhorns Ed Corrie and Alex Hilliard and former Longhorn Josh Zavala all have reached the doubles quarterfinals. Roger Beasley Volvo Hill Country Classic
