Men's Tennis eliminated from ITA All-American qualifying round
TULSA, Okla. -- University of Texas sophomore Milan Mihailovic (Nis, Serbia) suffered a round-of-64 loss in the singles qualifying draw, and a Longhorn doubles tandem fell shy of the main draw Tuesday at the Polo Ralph Lauren ITA All-American Championships at the Case Tennis Center.
Southern California's Kaes Van't Hof dealt Mihailovic a 6-3, 6-4 defeat to move on to the round of 32 and eliminate Mihailovic from main-draw contention. Meanwhile, a Texas doubles tandem scored a victory but could not stave off elimination in its second match.
Senior Roger Gubser (Laredo, Texas) and sophomore Luis Diaz Barriga (Cordoba, Mexico) defeated Tulsa's Richard Soriano and Luis Maasdrop by an 8-5 count in a round-of-64 qualifying match. However, Florida State's Ytai Abougzir and Marick Sykut eliminated the Longhorns by an 8-2 margin in the round of 32.
Texas will return to action on Thursday when Gubser and sophomore Travis Helgeson (Overland Park, Kan.) begin singles main-draw play.
