Men's Tennis completes first day of competition at ITA All-American Championships
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- Sophomores Hubert Chodkiewicz (Corpus Christi, Texas) and Garrett Snyder (Newport Beach, Calif.) completed the first two pre-qualifying singles rounds of the ITA All-American Championships held at the Champions Club on Friday. After posting a perfect 3-0 record in singles at last week's Hurricane Invitational, Chodkiewicz continued his strong play by defeating his first-round opponent, Jorge Padilla of Winthrop, 6-4, 6-2. In the second round, LSU's Mark Growcott posted a, 6-4, 6-4, victory over Chodkiewicz to eliminate him from singles competition. Chodkiewicz will now team with junior Roger Gubser (Laredo, Texas) in Saturday's pre-qualifying doubles rounds. Advancing past the first-round of competition by default, Snyder faced David North of Georgia Tech in the second round. Snyder controlled the first set, 6-2, and then fell behind in the second, 1-6, only to make a strong return in the third, 7-6. The three-set victory moved Snyder into the Round of 64 where he will face Shawn Ellison of UL-Lafayette. The Texas men return to action in singles and doubles competition at the ITA All-American Championships on Saturday. TEXAS RESULTS Second Round Pre-Qualifying Singles
