Men's Tennis wins five matches on final day of Hurricane Invitational
TULSA, Okla. -- The University of Texas men's tennis team wrapped up the Hurricane Invitational at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on Sunday, Sept. 26, winning three singles and two doubles matches. Flight A singles action saw freshman Travis Helgeson (Overland Park, Kan.) needing three sets to defeat teammate junior Roger Gubser (Laredo, Texas), 6-0, 3-6, 7-5. The win improved Helgeson to 3-0 in singles for the weekend, while Gubser finished 2-1. In Flight B singles, sophomore Hubert Chodekiewicz (Corpus Christi, Texas) ended the weekend 3-0 after posting a, 7-6, 6-3, victory over teammate freshman Luis Diaz Barriga Ibanez (Cordoba, Mexico) in Sunday's match. Recording a victory in Flight C singles was freshman Milan Mihailovic (Nis, Serbia), who defeated Elliot Engberg of SMU, 6-1, 6-1. After losing his first match on Friday, Mihailovic rebounded and finished the tournament, 2-1. Texas also had strong performances from its doubles teams this weekend, led by the duo of Gubser and Chodekiewicz. The two defeated Andy Connelly and Ross Cunningham of Tulsa, 8-2, improving their record to 3-0 for the tournament. The other Texas tandem of Helgeson and sophomore Garrett Snyder (Newport Beach, Calif.) went 2-1 for the weekend after defeating Ondrej Fukala and Tommy Garrison of Oklahoma, 8-5.
