Schellenberg scores Men's Tennis upset at Baylor H-E-B Intercollegiate
WACO, Texas -- University of Texas freshman Rook Schellenberg (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) scored a three-set victory over a top-50 opponent to highlight the first day of action Friday in the Baylor HEB Intercollegiate at the Baylor Tennis Center.
Schellenberg rebounded from a first-set loss to defeat 46th-ranked Marek Velicka of Oklahoma, 1-6, 6-1, 6-2 in the opening round of the gold singles draw. Louisville's Damar Johnson eliminated Schellenberg in the round of 32, 6-2, 6-1.
Junior Milan Mihailovic (Nis, Serbia) defeated Texas-San Antonio's Robin Fernandes by a 6-2, 6-0 count in the round of 64 before falling to Tulsa's seventh-ranked Arnau Brugues in the round of 32.
Junior Bernhard Deussner (Vienna, Austria) suffered a 6-4, 6-4 defeat to Denver's Timo Kienle in the opening round of the green singles draw. He will meet TCU's Andrew Ulrich on Saturday at 9:15 a.m. in the consolation bracket.
