ST. HELENA, Calif. - Four Texas men's tennis student-athletes will compete in the Audi Napa Valley Tennis Classic this weekend for a chance to qualify for a United States Tennis Association Pro Circuit event.
The 12th annual event, held at the Meadowood Napa Valley Resort, will match players from four of the best programs in collegiate tennis (Texas, Cal, Stanford and Georgia) against eight of the top juniors in the USTA. Competition begins on Friday, Sept. 21 and concludes on Sunday, Sept. 23.
The field of 32 players in the round-robin tournament will be divided into eight pools of four, featuring three collegiate players and one junior player. Winners of the three-match pool play will compete in the PlayBrave USTA Wild Card Shootout - a single-elimination, 10-point tiebreak tournament - for the right to advance to a USTA Pro Circuit event.
Sophomore Lloyd Glasspool, sophomore No. 42 Soren Hess-Olesen, junior No. 109 Sudanwa Sitaram and senior No. 46 Daniel Whitehead will represent the Longhorns in California while competing for the first time this spring.
