Corrie nabs ITA top-20 preseason ranking

AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas senior Ed Corrie has earned a top-20 singles ranking in the preseason rankings release distributed by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Corrie ranks No. 18 in the ITA preseason men's singles rankings after totaling a 30-12 overall singles record last season, including a 17-7 mark in dual matches. The Englishman earned All-Big 12 singles honors in the 2010 campaign during which he clinched key victories over No. 1 USC at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship and against Texas A&M in the finals of the Big 12 Championship. Senior Kellen Damico comes in at No. 77 in the ITA preseason men's singles rankings after registering a 20-12 overall singles record and a 14-9 mark in dual matches last season. Damico and sophomore Chris Camillone rank 58th in the ITA preseason men's doubles rankings, while Corrie and junior Jean Andersen come in at No. 24 in the doubles rankings. Texas opens the fall tournament season on Friday, Sept. 17 at the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational in Midland. Diaz Barriga to resume Davis Cup play for Mexico Diaz Barriga made his most recent Davis Cup appearance last March when Mexico defeated Guatemala. He teamed up with Daniel Garza to post a 7-5, 6-3, 7-5 doubles win over Guatemala's Manuel Chavez and Christopher Diaz-Figueroa.
