AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas-Ex Miguel Reyes Varela (2006-09), a former doubles All-American as a Longhorn, teamed up with Bruno Rodriguez earlier this month to win the 16-team doubles draw at the SportScheck Open, an ITF futures event in Munich, Germany. 

Reyes Varela and Rodriguez rallied for a 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7) win over Germany's Dominik Meffert and Michael Spegel, as the duo claimed its fourth victory of the tournament to win the doubles draw. 

Reyes Varela now ranks No. 478 in the ATP world doubles rankings while holding the No. 617 slot  in the ATP world singles rankings. 

Corrie falls in opening round of Wimbledon qualifying

Former Longhorn Ed Corrie (2008-11) fell in the first round of the Wimbledon qualifying draw to France's 221st-ranked Stephane Robert, 6-4, 6-3. 

The Englishman, who comes in at No. 562 in the ATP world singles rankings, reached the singles semifinals at an ITF futures event in Turkey last February.  He also made the quarterfinals at a pair of U.S. ITF futures events in April after reaching the quarterfinals at an ITF futures event in March in his native Great Britain. 

Texas to visit Kentucky for ITA Kick-Off Weekend event

Texas will head to the University of Kentucky next January to compete in the annual ITA Kick-Off Weekend event that determines the teams who will compete at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship. 

The Longhorns hold the No. 2 seed in the Lexington, Ky., region and will take on South Carolina in their first-round match.  The winner of that match will take on the winner of the Kentucky-Michigan State match for the right to compete in the ITA National Team Indoor Championship. 


 

 

The ITA Kick-Off Weekend event is set for Jan. 25-28, 2013.
