COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- All-American Travis Helgeson (Overland Park, Kan.) lost a 6-4, 6-4 decision to Harvard's Jonathan Chu in the NCAA Men's Singles Championship Round of 16 on Friday afternoon at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center on the campus of Texas A&M University. The UT freshman, ranked 66th nationally, finishes his season with a 26-13 singles record.
Chu, the No. 32 singles player in the nation, advances to the quarterfinals and will face No. 3 seed Jesse Witten of Kentucky of Saturday, May 28. Witten defeated Texas A&M's Jerry Makowski 7-6 (2), 6-1 on Friday afternoon.
With the defeat, Texas' 2004-05 season comes to an end. The Longhorns tallied a 13-10 overall dual-match record (2-5 Big 12) and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
