Men's Tennis duo set for NCAA Singles Championship
AUSTIN, Texas -- Junior Callum Beale (Adelaide, Australia) and freshman Travis Helgeson (Overland Park, Kan.) will compete in the 2005 NCAA Singles Championship on Wednesday, May 25. Beale will face No. 5 seed Ludovic Walter of Duke in the first round at 10 a.m., while Helgeson squares off against No. 6 seed Luben Pampoulov of UCLA at 1 p.m. All times are Central. Beale, who is No. 48 in the latest ITA national singles rankings, has tallied a 23-13 overall record and a 13-8 mark in dual matches. The singles tournament marks the second meeting this season between Beale and Walter. In their first meeting on March 12, Beale upset Walter 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 in a dual match in Austin. Helgeson is ranked No. 66 nationally by the ITA and has compiled a 24-12 overall record. The freshman has played most of the season at the No. 2 slot in the lineup and is 14-9 in dual matches. This will be the first meeting between Helgeson and Pampoulov. Texas A&M University will serve as host of the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships and all matches will be played at the George P.
