Men's Tennis postcard from NCAA Tournament: May 19
Greetings from Palo Alto... Of course, we're here at Stanford for the NCAA Tennis Championships. We play our first match on Saturday against Ole Miss, who is seeded 14th in the tournament. The Rebels have played some great matches this season against some really tough competition, including a couple of matches against Georgia, the top-seeded team in the field. We know they will give us their best effort, so we have to be sure to match their effort if we want to move on to the quarterfinals. Since we arrived Wednesday night, we have had some down time between practice sessions to enjoy the sights of northern California. The NCAA assigns a host family to each team in the tournament, and those families invite the teams to their homes for dinner. Our host family was spectacular. We joined the family for dinner last night at their incredible home, which featured a six-car garage, a vineyard in the front yard, and a guest house and fountain in the back yard. Inside, we found a stage with a full set of musical instruments and a home theater with a seven-by-nine foot video screen. It was simply amazing. And, of course, the food was unbelievable. They served us steak, chicken and vegetables, along with brownies and ice cream for dessert. We'd like to thank the family for their kindness and hospitality. It was a night we'll never forget. In the photo, you'll see we took some time to do some mixing at the turntable in the studio. Some of the guys took their turns on the karaoke machine, and, needless to say, they need to stick with what they do best, which is play tennis. Michael Venus, Roger Gubser and Hubert Chodkiewicz took turns singing lines from a few songs, and they were awful. That's why we stuck with the turntable and mixed beats instead. We sounded much better than those guys, without question. Hook 'em,
