UT Tower lighting scheduled for Tuesday, May 11
May 10, 2010
AUSTIN, Texas -- The UT Tower will be drenched in burnt orange lighting Tuesday evening, May 11 in recognition of the University of Texas men's tennis team's Big 12 regular-season title and its victory earlier this month at the Big 12 Championship. Per UT tradition, the campus landmark is bathed in burnt orange lighting from top to bottom when a University of Texas athletics team wins a conference championship. The third-ranked Longhorns won their sixth Big 12 regular-season title outright on April 25 when they finished an undefeated conference season with a 5-2 victory at Nebraska. Texas secured its fourth Big 12 postseason tournament title on May 2 when it outlasted 10th-ranked Texas A&M by a 4-3 count in Austin. The Longhorns host NCAA first- and second-round matches beginning Friday, May 14 in Austin. Texas will take on UTSA in the first round on Friday at 1 p.m. Central. The Texas-UTSA winner will take on Friday's Arizona-Minnesota winner on Saturday at 1 p.m. Central for the right to advance to the NCAA round of 16 in Athens, Ga.
