Men's Tennis signs Sudanwa Sitaram to National Letter of Intent

May 7, 2010

AUSTIN, Texas -- University of Texas head men’s tennis coach Michael Center announced Friday the signing Sudanwa Sitaram (Tamil Nadu, India) to a National Letter of Intent.  Sitaram will be eligible to join the Longhorns in the fall of 2010.

“Sudanwa has had a very successful junior career, and we’ve been able to watch him play at the highest level at the grand slam events,” Center said.  “He has competed against and defeated some of the best players in the United States.  We believe Sudanwa will be an outstanding player, a great teammate and a terrific student at The University of Texas.  Sudanwa and redshirt freshman David Holiner will give us one of the top classes of newcomers in college tennis next season.”

Sitaram has been ranked as high as No. 46 in the ITF (International Tennis Federation) junior rankings.  Sitaram reached the boys’ semifinals at the 2009 AEGON International Junior Championship (Roehampton), the world’s premier junior championship event outside of the grand slams.

Sitaram participated in the main singles and doubles draws at the 2009 U.S. Open Junior Championship and reached the round of 32 at the 2009 Junior Championships, Wimbledon.
