Times set for NCAA Men's Tennis Regional

AUSTIN, Texas -- The University of Texas men’s tennis team will face Rice in the first round of the 2005 NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Championships at the Baylor Tennis Center in Waco, Texas, on Friday, May 13 at 3 p.m. (Central), Baylor officials announced Thursday. The top-seeded Baylor men will square off in the other Friday first-round match against Prairie View A&M at 6 p.m.

The two winners will meet on Saturday in the round of 32 (second round) at 6 p.m. with Saturday’s winner advancing to the NCAA Championships Round of 16. The NCAA Championship tourney is scheduled for Saturday-Tuesday, May 21-24 at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station, Texas.

Baylor, the defending national champion, received the top overall seed in the men’s bracket and stands 28-0 entering NCAA action. Virginia (24-2), meanwhile, earned the second seed followed by Ole Miss (21-3) and Florida (20-5).

The Longhorns are making their 14th consecutive appearance at the NCAA Championships and their 23rd appearance overall. UT holds a 23-22 all-time record in NCAA Tournament play and has made 11 Round of 16 appearances in the last 13 seasons. Texas had its best NCAA run in 1993 when it advanced to the semifinal round before losing to eventual national champion USC.

6 p.m.: No. 1 seed Baylor (28-0) vs. Prairie View A&M (13-8)
