Men's Tennis to open NCAA Championships against Missouri-Kansas City

AUSTIN, Texas - Texas (18-8) has earned a No. 13 national seed and will head to Norman, Okla., to meet Missouri-Kansas City in the opening round of the 2011 NCAA Championships. Texas and Missouri-Kansas City (16-6), the Summit League champion, will meet in the NCAA Championships' round of 64 on Friday, May 13 at The University of Oklahoma. Texas is the No. 1 seed in the Norman region, while UMKC is the No. 4 seed. Host Oklahoma (16-7) is the No. 2 seed, while Tulsa (19-7) is the No. 3 seed. The Texas-UMKC winner will meet the Oklahoma-Tulsa winner in the NCAA round of 32 on Saturday, May 14 in Norman. The round-of-32 winner will advance to the NCAA round of 16 at Stanford University, where the remainder of the championship will be contested. Texas has earned a top-16 national seed for six consecutive seasons. The Longhorns had hosted NCAA first- and second-round matches the previous five seasons as a national seed, but UT joins North Carolina as the only two of the 16 national seeds to be sent on the road for the 2011 NCAA Championships' opening rounds. Texas has met Tulsa and Oklahoma on their home courts this season. Texas defeated Tulsa by a 6-1 count on Jan. 16 in Tulsa. Oklahoma defeated Texas by a 4-3 count on March 25 in Norman.
Texas opened the 2010 NCAA Championships with wins over UTSA and Minnesota in Austin. The Longhorns met Oklahoma in the NCAA round of 16 at The University of Georgia. The Sooners emerged with a 4-3 victory in a lengthy match delayed by rain.
