Men's Tennis places two on All-Big 12 team
DALLAS -- Junior Callum Beale (Adelaide, Australia) and freshman Travis Helgeson (Overland Park, Kan.) were recipients of All-Big 12 honors, the conference announced on Monday, May 2. Beale and Helgeson received conference honors in both singles and doubles for the first time in their careers. The All-Big 12 honors were selected by the league's head coaches, who were not allowed to vote for their own players. Beale, ranked 48th nationally in singles, has played primarily at the top of the lineup where he has compiled a 22-12 overall record and a 12-7 record in dual matches. Helgeson, meanwhile, is ranked 66th nationally and has amassed a 23-11 overall record and a 13-8 mark in dual matches, playing most of the season at No. 2 singles. Beale and Helgeson also have teamed to hold down the No. 1 spot in the doubles lineup where they have posted a 13-9 record overall and are 7-8 in dual matches. The duo is recognized as the 60th-ranked doubles tandem in the nation. The Longhorns reached the semifinals of the Big 12 Tournament on Saturday, April 30, and they now await the pairings and host sites for the 2005 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championships which will be announced on Wednesday, May 4.
