Sitaram claims Big 12 individual title

IRVING, Texas -- University of Texas sophomore Sudanwa Sitaram garnered his first career conference title Wednesday afternoon, as the Big 12 Conference awarded him a co-championship at No. 3 singles. Sitaram shares the honor with Oklahoma State's Chris Haworth, Texas Tech's Rafael Garcia and Texas A&M's Colin Hoover. Sitaram posted a 3-2 mark in conference play with victories over Texas Tech's Garcia (7-6[1], 6-2), Oklahoma State's Rifat Biktyakov (7-6[4], 6-1) and Oklahoma's Tsvetan Mihov (7-6[5], 1-6, 1-0 [10-8]). Sitaram owns a 27-11 overall singles record this season, including a 15-5 mark in dual matches. Sitaram and the Longhorns begin postseason play on Friday when they meet Texas A&M in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Championship. First serve is set for noon Central at A&M's Mitchell Tennis Center.
